Our Story...

Her Story:

Brandon and I met on the school bus in the spring of 2001, when I was in 6th grade and he was in 8th.  I thought he was the cutest boy and secretly hoped he'd sit next to me on the bus (but it rarely happened!).  It wasn't until a couple years later that we started our journey as "high school sweethearts," a young love affair that left butterflies in our stomachs.  We continued dating for the majority of our time in college, making sure to take some time apart to "see what else is out there."  No matter what, we always found our way back to one another.  In the late summer of 2009, we decided there was no more letting go.

God answered my lifelong prayer and has blessed me with an amazing future husband who is also my best friend.  We couldn't be more excited to begin our lives as Mr. and Mrs. Stokes!

His story:

My relationship with Megan started with shy, quick glances at one another on the school bus, hoping to catch each other’s eye.  A couple years later, it became love notes being passed back and forth in the hallway at school.  Then, as soon as her parents would let her, it turned in to going out on dates. We became inseparable and I knew I had found the person I wanted to spend the rest of my life with.

After five years of attending separate colleges and many roads trips to visit one another, I moved to Charleston so we could live in the same town. Shortly after, the idea of marriage became a regular topic and I knew I had to ask her before she changed her mind. On November 23, 2011, I asked Megan to take my hand in marriage. I thank God for allowing me to spend my life with someone so amazing!

Brandon and I had both gone home to be with our families for Thanksgiving.  Since our parents live about thirty miles from one another, Brandon asked to pick me up and take me on a date in Beaufort "like old times back in high school."  I was pretty hesitant to go since I knew we could go on a date any day of any given week and I wanted to spend my time home with my family.  However, my parents encouraged me to go, so Brandon picked me up early enough for us to watch the sun set on the Beaufort waterfront before dinner.

It was the most gorgeous November evening; a nice cool breeze, but still warm enough where we didn't need jackets.  We sat on one of the swings and talked about life ...our jobs, families, and growing old together.  Brandon was completely calm and collected!  That is, until he suggested that we start walking towards the restaurant to make our dinner reservation.   Gone was my composed boyfriend!  He stopped me in my tracks, right in front of the beautiful waterfront.  At that moment, his voice became quivery and his eyes welled up in tears.  The next thing to go was my memory!  Brandon went down on one knee and asked to spend the rest of his life with me.  He said he had to ask me three times before I said a word!  All I remember is being floored with emotions ...happiest-girl-in-the-world emotions, that is.

The icing on the cake happened a few minutes later, when Brandon pointed off in the distance and I recognized both of our families hiding across the park!  After tons of hugs, cries, laughs, and pictures later... we arrived at our dinner reservation and celebrated with our favorite people in the world.
